The weather forecast was for rain all day, so I scrapped my planned hike and took a zero day instead. I’m staying at Peaceful Valley Campground in West Sunbury, where I upgraded to a regular cabin from one of their Barebones Cabins.
I know I should take more zero days when I hike. It’s a great time to catch up on laundry and these trail journals, plus resupply and just rest. But it’s so tempting to keep pushing on. There are so many trails to hike and so little time for a Boomer like me.
Zero Day Doesn’t Mean Zero Work
It was great to sleep in. But then I got to work. Laundry was first. I completed the washing before the rain began, but had to retrieve the clothes from the dryer while it was pouring. I finally started posting my trail journals, then set up some car drops for the next two days.
There are no established parking spots on some of the upcoming road walks, so I try to locate a business along the road, then ask if I can park my car there during the day. Churches are another good spot, assuming it’s not a Sunday. Then I moved around my lodging reservations and trail angel shuttles. I also made a grocery run. Before I knew it, the day was over.
