Bridge over the Allegheny River.
Today was interesting. It was generally a very easy day, but I can tell I’m olde. I definitely need to work in more rest days!

Heather, my trail angel for three days, met me in Kossuth, where I parked at an ice cream shop that’s only open on the weekend. She shuttled me back to Brandon Road and I took off, this time heading north/east. I enjoyed the same lovely, flat trail along the Allegheny River. There were a lot of small waterfalls along the way.

At one point there was a historical marker pointing to a large rock filled with petroglyphs on the other side of the river – Indian God Rock. This rock has been a landmark for river travelers for centuries. Too cool!

Heading for Kossuth

Several miles in, the NCT switched to the Sandy Creek Trail. Again, it was a flat, paved path. I went through another tunnel (the Mays’ Mill Tunnel); Wooden bridge leading to a tunnel.thankfully, this one was short. The Sandy Creek Trail led me over numerous bridges. Near the end of the day, I was on a gravel road until the last stretch on a highway into Kossuth.
