We had a great night in our storage container AirBnB. This morning was sunny and warm – perfect hiking conditions!
After shuttling our cars, we struck out backwards, first trekking along the trails in Beaver Creek State Park near Hambleton’s Mill, an old mill dating to 1813. We had flat areas along Beaver Creek interspersed with steep climbs. The trilliums were in bloom, along with other spring wildflowers, which was so enjoyable.
After enjoying a snack break at a campground within the park, we exited via a scruffy piece of trail.

Heading Away from Sprucevale Lock
Once back on the roads, we enjoyed some quiet paths. At one point, we passed what is billed as America’s smallest timber covered bridge. Unfortunately, we left these quiet backroads and had to walk quite a few miles on a very busy highway. We were able to segue onto part of the bike trail on the east end of
Lisbon, then onto their streets before picking up our car.
We’re amazed at all of the old buildings here in eastern Ohio. It shouldn’t be a surprised, as Ohio was settled before Michigan and Wisconsin, our home states. Still, the history here is amazing.

My most useful gear today: My Kahtoola gaiters, which prevented lots of little stones from getting into my hiking shoes. While they’re not perfect (the zippers can be finicky), the straps that go under your shoes are very durable. When I used other brands, the straps always broke very early, so I was always buying new pairs. These last a long time.
