Waterfall in woods.
The Eckerts are going home today, so I’m alone for my final week. They graciously agreed to shuttle me today before heading home, so we dropped my car just west of Macksburg and they shuttled me back to Hackney. Then we hugged and parted ways.

Today’s hike was all roads. There was a fair chance of rain about 3 p.m., when I was predicted to finish.

The first many miles were quite pleasant, with one big hill but lots of flat walking. Thanks to the rain, there are lots of little waterfalls here and there. The area was rather deserted, but still a pleasant walk.

Making My Way to Macksburg

After a great morning and lunch stop, the afternoon got a tad sketchier. (But just a tad.) I had to use my air horn when another aggressive dog ran at me. There were several steep hills to negotiate. But overall, it was a great day.Country scene

I made it to my car just when it began to sprinkle. Then it was back to Marietta. The motel staff are trying to help me with shuttles – so kind! And I heard from Matthew, the head of the Wilderness section of the Buckeye Trail; he can shuttle me tomorrow. Yay!

Rain is coming once again tomorrow. But that’s O.K. It’s part of the experience.

Most useful gear today: Once again, my dog air horn. I really think everyone needs one of these!
