Cave from Underground Railroad
Today was another backwards-hike day from Kincaid Cave Park. We dropped the Eckerts’ car at Wildcat Hollow, then drove to Kincaid Cave (aka Herman Cave). This is a really cool, historic spot where runaway slaves hid before the Civil War. After checking it out, we began hiking back to Wildcat Hollow.

I feel like a broken record, but the miles here are mostly on roads that are SO steep and hilly. It’s beyond tiring. There are many Amish families here, so it’s been fun to see them in their buggies clacking by.

We saw one Buckeye Trail camping spot as we trekked along.

Making Our Way Back to Wildcat Hollow

About halfway through the day, we passed Shews’ Orchard. They rent out a rustic cabin that we’d rented for the night. We got a glimpse of it trekking past. Bruce also hit 500 miles on the NCT there. Congrats, Bruce!Man by Shews' Orchard sign

Once again, rain was in the forecast. It was supposed to hit right around the time we’d be unpacking our stuff at the cabin. Well, when we were maybe five minutes away, it began to rain. Luckily, it stopped when we reached the cabin.

We quickly hauled our gear in, and eventually it began to pour. This cabin is rustic, with an outhouse. But there is a shower, incredibly. So we showered up, ate and hit the hay.

I’m still surprised how challenging this trail is.
