Today was supposed to be a zero day, but we hiked a few miles to fill in for the ones we cut the last two days. Specifically, we hiked between the Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve and New Straitsville SP 32.
The day dawned pretty cool (30s F), but it was sunny so we felt great striking out. Since we passed Boch Hollow to stage our car, we dropped one there and hiked backwards.

Heading Out from New Straitsville
We parked our car on a dead-end road, then began our trek. We had one super long downhill on the roads, but no big uphills. Yes! Then we entered Boch Hollow for the bulk of our miles.
The trail here is lovely – well-maintained and pretty. There were quite a few walkers and runners out today. Fluffy cottonwood seeds were blowing around this morning. We saw that ones that had fallen overnight froze on the ground, evoking the look of diamonds scattered about. It was really cool. We also saw an odd-looking plant that our nature app says is American Cancer Root. We’d never heard of that, so I’ll have to look it up!
After our hike, we enjoyed lunch and some wine sampling at the Hocking Hills Winery. Now it’s time to get ready for big miles tomorrow and a return to camping.
