Quiet river flowing through the countryside.
Ed and I had a restful night at our apartment rental in Cooperstown. Last night, we dined at The Fish Bowl, one of the only local spots with food (one of their restaurants just burned down recently – yikes). We enjoyed chatting with some of the locals in the bar.

Today the forecast was for a cloudy day, sans rain. Sounded good to us! We had a short day planned – all road walking – and hoped to be back at the apartment by late afternoon so we could enjoy a Memorial Day cookout.

Heading Out from North of Sibley

After dropping my car, we struck out. The morning was cool and cloudy, so we were dressed warmly. The road waking here was mostly on quiet, gravel roads. This part of the state is quite hilly – but, of course, nothing crazy.

When we reached Cooperstown, after enduring some not-predicted light rain, it was sunny and warm. So we stopped in at Two people with ice cream cones.Grumpy’s for an ice cream cone. The two kids working the counter had never heard of the North Country Trail, even though it winds through town. So I gave them a short lesson.

En route to picking up Ed’s car, we stopped at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Site. Specifically, the November-33 Launch Facility. It was an interesting peek into the Cold War years. Also, I used to work in the Wisconsin State Legislature around this time, so it brought back memories of what was going on in the U.S. and world at that time. It was very interesting.

Ed Gets Ready to Head Home

Back at our apartment, I reorganized all of my stuff while Ed got ready to head home. We washed clothes and had a Missile silo.hamburger cookout for Memorial Day. We toasted to my dad with an Old-Fashioned. I miss him.
