Trail running along rocky, red hill.
Today’s trek to the CR 61 Trailhead was my last long day, Phew! I started hiking National Scenic Trails a decade ago, and I’m getting older and slower! But that’s O.K.

So it rained last night – just for a short period of time – but everything got soaked and didn’t dry out this morning. Oh, well. I drove back to Nashwauk and started hiking, as Rick, my trail angel, wanted to do an afternoon shuttle. The forecast called for moderate temps once again. Yay!

Making My Way to the CR 61 Trailhead

Today the scenery was pleasant, but unremarkable. Or maybe I was just tired and couldn’t appreciate it enough. I’m definitely intrigued by the numerous “pit lakes” here, which are lakes that fill in former mine pits. Very often, their water is a Lake under blue sky with puffy clouds.beautiful sapphire blue. Rick says maybe it’s because plants and other things that can make water murky can’t grow as easily in these bodies of water, due to the minerals.

I saw another deer today that stared at me for a long time before running away. That’s so interesting, as deer usually run away pretty quickly. There were lots of cyclists on the trail today, compared to the previous few days.

Tonight I’m camping at Pokegama Dam Campground. It’s small but pretty, and the bathrooms/showers are new and clean. Looking forward to few miles tomorrow!
