Happy Birthday to me! Ed and I had a decent night in our compact tent spot. We hit the trail right away, as we were anxious to get into Steamboat Springs and relax – and celebrate my birthday!
The trail unspooled downhill for the most part, although there were more uphills than we’d recalled. We passed Jim’s spot, but he was out. However, by the time we reached the highway, Jim was coming home and stopped to chat. He’d been in town buying more cookies for the hikers! What a nice guy.

Heading from Hwy. 14 to Steamboat Springs!
We texted our trail angel, Theresa, saying we were headed down Hwy. 14. We made it several miles, covering the 2 miles we missed when the guys shuttled us in the rain the other day. She was ferrying another hiking couple and their dog. They don’t like walking
along highways with their dog, so she dropped them off at the gravel road, then turned around and took us to Steamboat.
We are now snugged in a lovely hotel room (Holiday Inn), washing clothes and our gear, and getting ready for a nice dinner in their restaurant.
I love hiking, but I also LOVE getting into a motel. Showering is always the best!
