Today we spent a wonderful zero day – no hiking! – in Grand Lake. We weren’t just resting, though. We picked up a hiker box from the post office and mailed some things back.
We stopped at two grocery stores to pick up some supplies. And we asked around town for someone to slackpack us half the day tomorrow to help ensure we can make it to Steamboat Springs in time. Ed flies home from there.
We also bought a canister of oxygen for Ed, as we’ll have a few high-elevation climbs this next week. I’d thought they were a gimmick, but the locals say they work. I guess Ed will find out soon!

Chillin’ in the AirBnB
After asking everyone we met about a slackpacking shuttle tomorrow, success! I ran into a young mother, Kimberly, who homeschools her kids and was planning a “Friday Fun Day” tomorrow. She said she could take us to the next trailhead tomorrow morning, which is probably the wisest strategy to ensure Ed makes his flight.
Plus, we’ve walked around town so much today that our mileage pretty much equals the miles trekking out to the trailhead. So a win all around! And now that these trail journals are up-to-date, it’s time for Happy Hour!
