I’ve said it many times, but you always have to be prepared to pivot when hiking a long-distance trail. That can be hard for Type-A people like me, who love to create itineraries and stick to them. But between the weather, the terrain and, now, my older age, you have to be smart.

After shuttling here last night due to the rain/hypothermia knocking, I’d planned to do some hiking today. But more rain was forecast, and I haven’t had a zero day (no hiking) so far, so I decided to take one.

Indulging in My Zero Day

Lake in skiing village.
Yes, I did walk around the Copper Mountain Village and pick up some of the Silverthorne Alternate mileage, but I’ll count that for tomorrow. I also purchased some food and sundries. I got caught up on email, wrote trail journals and, yes, played New York Times games that I’d missed. (I love Wordle, Connections, Strands, the Crossword, the Mini Crossword and Spelling Bee, plus Worldle, which is about geography and not part of the NYT.)

I also paid close attention to the weather which, sadly, calls for more rain. I’m looking at alternates to the alternates and other contingencies. You need to have contingencies!
