Red cottage.
After a great night’s sleep, I had breakfast in a Lake City cafe across the street, then did laundry at the local laundromat. Liz opted to continue on the CT, taking the noon shuttle. I was a bit sad to see her go. It was nice having company for a while.

Taking It Easy in Lake City

After mulling over my options, I decided not to get back on the official CDT from here. It says that while a gorgeous hike, much of it is in exposed areas above 13,000 feet (+3,962 m). That means wind, cold and possibly even snow if this rain/precipitation keeps up. I’m alone and older and it just isn’t worth the risk.

My only real option is to try and find a ride into Creede, a town an hour Trail hiker center.away. An alternate route runs through Creede. It’s shorter than the official CDT, and Creede is right in the middle. But I can hike up to the pass, back into Creede, then south to this alternate’s intersection with the CDT.

So that’s the plan. All I need to do is find a ride …

Dinner with Friends

While stopping in at the hiker center to charge my devices and try to find a ride to Creede, I ran into Bubbles and Tiny Dragon, hikers I met along the way. They’d paired with three Canadians and were going to dinner tonight. I was invited along. Yay!

We ended up eating at a Mexican restaurant. I was said to part ways with them, but I’m also used to hiking alone.
