Statues of pronghorn deer
Well, while three days off make me a little antsy, I’m sure glad to be tucked into my motel room in Pinedale. It rained last night and has been raining on and off all day. Tomorrow is supposed to be a nice day, with rain possible on Tuesday. The rest of the week looks OK. Phew!

I’m still getting caught up on my correspondence and trail journals. Then I’ll do a final load of laundry here in the motel. I’ve started packing my backpack and bear vault. Those are going to be SO HEAVY! But carrying six days’ worth of food is a lot.

Fingers Crossed

From what I can tell from the apps and other research, the hike back up to the CDT tomorrow will be quite strenuous. Lots of steep uphills. I keep getting difference estimates as to how long the trails are, but it appears to be about 10 miles (16.1 km). I’ll be happy if I can make it up to the CDT, then a few miles down the path to get to a slightly lower elevation. This area is around 10,300 feet (3,048 m).

After Monday, though, things look pretty good. If I average about 15 miles (24.1 km) per day, I’ll be at the popular Green River Lakes on Tuesday, where I can camp at a flat site with a picnic table. After that, other than one bigger climb, every day should be relatively flat until I meet Ed on Saturday.

Of course, the terrain could be very rocky and rooty and so my pace could be quite slow. Still, it looks good!
