Irish and ReRun agreed to pick me up from the Scab Creek Trailhead for gas money. Perfect! I woke up early, after a nice night in the Scab Creek Campground, then trekked down the road to meet ReRun.
ReRun was chatting with two other hikers who had gotten off of the trail to also avoid the upcoming storms. No one wants to be at elevation when it’s raining, hailing and snowing out!
Hanging Out in Pinedale
My motel room wasn’t ready so early in the morning, so ReRun gave me a tour of the small town and dropped me off at the visitor center, which wasn’t open yet. So I went to the coffee shop next door and enjoyed a caramel latte while catching up on emails, texts and the like.
Eventually I meandered to the visitor center, where they wash your stinky clothes for free! I gave them my duds and took a few things from the hiker box, like gauze pads for my arm and some electrolyte packs. I chatted quite a while with the director, who gave me a lot of options for getting off of the trail, if necessary, during my last week of hiking.
Shop ‘Til You Drop
It would be a few hours until my clothes were ready, so I walked to the grocery store to get some sandwich fixings for the next few days, more fuel for my backpacking stove and a few other goodies. Then it was back to the visitor center.
My laundry was delivered shortly after lunch. I then headed out to my motel, which was on the other side of town. I was able to check into my room a little early – yes! – although I was disappointed my bear vault hadn’t arrived.
Ed had mailed our small vault to me, and it was supposed to arrive in Pinedale yesterday. Rats. Well, I still had another day.
I spent the rest of the day showering – ahhh! – doing more catch-up work with emails, etc. I ended up too tired to go out to eat, so I ate my last backpacker meal in my hotel room.
